DVD Review: Brewster Leads the Way!

*I received a copy of this DVD at no cost to me to facilitate my review - all opinions are my own*

My boys love having new DVD's and more often than not, we screen them in my car while we wait for my daughter to be picked up after school, but when I opened the envelope and Erik saw Brewster on the cover, he couldn't wait for a car trip - I had to cede my laptop to him so he could watch Brewster Leads the Way right away - and it's barely left the DVD player in my computer since!

Modern Family Season 4 Sponsored Blu-Ray #Giveaway #MyModernFamilyBD from @FHEInsiders

If you're a fan of Modern Family, this is a DVD giveaway for you!

In Season 4, we watched as Haley went off to college and Lily had her first day of Kindergarten. These are two big steps that are often very hard for parents to handle. Here is some advice for all of those modern parents out there who are going through these transitional stages with their families.

The laughs – and the awards – just keep on coming for the #1-rated “Modern Family,” winner of three consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series! With Jay and Gloria’s baby on the way and Haley going off to college, the entire Pritchett/Dunphy clan faces some major surprises as they bicker and bond over house-flipping headaches, unwanted play dates, and everything from hot-tempered hormones to in utero karaoke. Featuring a stellar array of guest stars including Matthew Broderick, Shelley Long and Elizabeth Banks, Season Four takes a heartfelt and laugh-out-lough hilarious look at what it means to be a “Modern Family.”

Here are some Back to School Tips from Modern Family:
  • Set Guidelines
Before you send off your precious son or daughter to fend for their selves in college, make sure you clearly discuss guidelines. Remind them that even though you are not there to set specific rules, they are still responsible for their actions. Claire and Phil certainly know what it’s like when your daughter calls you one
night because they’ve been caught doing illegal things by the police.

  • Prepare Your Little One
Kindergarten is a huge step for your little one! Make sure they are prepared for their big day by giving them a basic educational foundation and teaching them to play well with others. When Lily heads off to kindergarten and gets in a tousle on her first day, Cam and Mitchell are put in a very awkward situation. No parent wants to be in the same situation!
  • Communication is Key
Set up specific times to continue growing as a family. There is a fine line between suffocating your college kid and staying informed about what’s going on in their life. Many families will select a certain time, for instance Sunday afternoons, to have family phone calls and catch up on the week’s happenings, even if they have talked throughout the week. Just because your son or daughter has moved out, it does not mean that your relationship has to suffer! In fact, sometimes parent-child relationships grow once the kid has left for college.
  • Distract Yourself
Plan a fun activity for yourself right after dropping your son of in his college dorm room or leaving your daughter for the first day of kindergarten. Have a distraction for yourself so that you don’t find yourself at home looking through photo albums and wondering “how did the time go by so quickly?” These steps are exciting, but certainly emotional and you don’t want to wallow in your sorrows.
  • Show You Care
No matter what age your child is, make sure you are sharing in their excitement! Whether you have a kindergartener bringing home a painting or a college student signing up for campus activities, ask them questions about their life and listen to their answers. Celebrate with them when they ace an exam or learn to count to 20.

Modern Family Season 4 arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray on September 24th and one lucky Acting Balanced Winner will receive a Blu-Ray copy of it - just fill out the rafflecopter below:

Our review:

If, like my kids, you watched How to Train Your Dragon and wanted to know more about the dragons and their viking friends, then this 20 episode series is for you!  And you don't have to be a little kid to enjoy it - when I received the two DVD's in the mail the other day, Robyn was the first one to grab them and pop the first DVD into her player.

With 20 episodes you get to see way more about each of the dragons, their humans and their adventures!  In true DreamWorks form, each 22 minute episode is a great story and contains fabulous graphics.  The boys discovered How to Train Your Dragon just this year and are thrilled to be finding out more about the whole gang.  Since we don't have cable, they were thrilled to be able to watch TV episodes that came out so recently!

Review & Giveaway: Fireman Sam: Holiday Heroes

No sleet, no snow, no cold of night will keep Sam from protecting his citizens this holiday season. Featuring five-winter themed episodes, the Fireman Sam: Holiday Heroes DVD includes an all-new bonus Christmas music video, “Merry Christmas Everybody!”, and is available for the suggested retail price of $9.98.

DVD SYNOPSIS

It’s the holiday season and Fireman Sam’s adventures are heating up! Norman causes trouble baking more than holiday cookies and Sarah and James’ search for a polar bear turns into a snowy rescue! Trevor and his passengers find themselves on thin ice and Norman’s snowboarding antics leave Mike in a mountain of trouble. Sam shows his firefighting talent when Pontypandy’s holiday lighting competition goes haywire. With jingle bells and fire alarms, Fireman Sam is well prepared for the season’s best saves!

Episodes include:
“The Big Chill”
“The Pontypandy Polar Bear”
“Ice-Cold in Pontypandy”
“Snowball of Doom”
“Floodlights”

My Review:

What can be better during the holidays than Fireman Sam and his big red fire truck "Jupiter" racing to the rescue?  If you have preschoolers with a penchant for laughing at Norman's antics and you constantly shake your head at Dillis' lack of parenting skills, but laugh too, then you're going to want to add Fireman Sam: Holiday Heroes to your pre-holiday wishlist!    This DVD contains 5 fun and pretty typical episodes of the Fireman Sam show and makes for a great DVD to have on in the background as you get your family ready for the holiday season!  Our favorite episode was "The Snowball of Doom", but you'll have to get the DVD and figure out which one you like most!

Chugginton DVD Prize Pack Giveaway!

Full steam ahead!  Preschoolers from coast-to-coast will “honk their horns” for “Traintastic Adventures,” the newest addition to the award-winning hit Chuggington DVD series from Anchor Bay Entertainment, when it pulls into retail on August 14, 2012.  The brand-new collection of fun-filled episodes with relatable themes and positive messages will entertain young trainees as it helps them learn to ride the rails of life.

A colorful and contemporary CGI-animated TV series from Ludorum that reinforces early social readiness skills, “Chuggington” airs daily on Disney Junior, Disney Channel’s programming block for kids ages 2-7 and their families, and on the new 24-hour Disney Junior basic cable and satellite channel.

“‘Traintastic Adventures’ is action-packed with thrilling quests and important life lessons for preschoolers,” said Erin Carter, Executive Director of Brand Marketing, Anchor Bay Entertainment.  “We’re pleased to add this newest title to our library of popular ‘Chuggington’ DVDs – and to give fans of the series even more to love.”

“Traintastic Adventures” features six engaging episodes – plus a bonus Badge Quest short – filled with upbeat stories and fortified with positive messages designed to keep preschoolers on the right track as they learn and grow.  In “The Brewster Booster,” Brewster tests out the Booster, a new invention from Dr. Ling that can help make Chuggers go faster than ever.  But with his new super-speedy ability comes an important lesson in responsibility too….  And, in “Koko’s New Look,” Koko sees the pretty design that Lori painted on Zephie’s face and she wants one too!  When the two friends find themselves competing for the biggest and best design, things get out of hand and their “new look” includes spiders and a moustache!  Koko and Zephie soon learn they don’t need a new look after all – they’re both beautiful just as they are!

Additional episodes on the new release include: “Lights, Camera, Action Chugger,” which follows Action Chugger as he comes to town to film a movie; “Wilson And The Steam Team,” where Speedy and Harrison each lead a team in a “chug of war” competition to decide who will collect rolling rock from the mine; “Stunt Brewster,” in which Brewster and Koko accompany Action Chugger to a film shoot to learn stunts and “Hodge and the Chugnav,” in which Hodge takes matters into his own “hands” and tries to fix the track lift.

Inside the DVD, young fans will find an exciting surprise: four collectible trading cards featuring their favorite Chuggers!  With a series of 22 different trading cards, preschoolers will be honking their horns for all the “Chuggington” characters.

You can also head to chuggington.com/adventure to enter a traintastic sweepstakes to win a Delta Vacations trip to Colorado.  (No purchase necessary to enter.)
