Interview & Book Review: The Reluctant Bachelorette

I am so pleased to be hosting Rachael Renee, author of The Reluctant Bachelorette, amongst other titles to talk a little about books, herself and of course... who she'd invite to her dinner party!

1. Tell us a little bit about the book:

The Reluctant Bachelorette is a fun story about a girl who's unknowingly cast as the bachelorette for her town's charity event--something she's not thrilled about. But when she discovers her teenage crush happens to be one of the bachelors (and it's up to the viewers to decide who stays or who goes), she starts plotting out ways to get him voted off. Unfortunately, he's an eye-for-an-eye type guy and as soon as he realizes what she's up to, it means revenge.

2. How long have you been writing and what do you love about it?

I've always been a sucker for a good romance, and writing gives me the ability to make them the way I like them. (That makes me sound like a bit of a control freak, doesn't it?) It's also fun--if you don't count the revisions--and a great outlet for a frazzled mother.

3. What hobbies/interests do you have?

I like pretty much everything--unless it involves heights greater than 10 feet. Hiking, gardening, sewing, crafts, biking, water and snow skiing, and hanging out with my family are my favorites. Unfortunately, I have yet to like cooking.

4. Something people would be surprised to know about me is…

That I mix up words ALL the time. It's something my husband constantly teases me about. For example, I've written "rock the cradle" instead of "rob the cradle," "astrology" instead of "astronomy," "kill over" instead of "keel over," and my latest and greatest--"high-jacking" instead of "hitch-hiking." Yeah, I really did that. Good thing I have awesome critique partners who rarely mix up words.

5. If you could invite 4 people (real or fictional, living or dead) to a dinner party, who would you invite and what would you serve?

C.S. Lewis, Anne Shirley, Nelson Mandela, and my husband--because I would be way too intimidated to carry on a conversation with any of them. And since I can't cook, I'd have it catered. But there would be something chocolate for dessert.

6. I can’t live without…

Chocolate and peanut butter. Or chocolate covered almonds. Or chocolate in general. If that makes me unoriginal, oh well. :)
7. What's next for your writing?

I'm finishing up a Christmas novella right now, which will be part of a compilation book that I'm teaming up with two other authors to create (Jolene Perry and Kaylee Baldwin). It's called All I Want and will have three fun, short Christmas romances. It's a project I'm really excited about. Now I just need to finish those revisions.

8. How can your fans stay up to date with what you are doing?

Subscribing to my blog is the best way. Or they can following me on Twitter or Facebook or Goodreads.

Thanks so much for stopping by and chatting today!  It was great to learn more about you!

More About The Reluctant Bachelorette from the Publisher:

Unknowingly cast as the bachelorette for her town’s charity event, Taycee Emerson wants out. Especially when she discovers her old teenage crush, Luke Carney, is one of the bachelors and it's up to the viewers--not her--to decide which bachelors stay or go. Coerced into participating, Taycee does what any self-preserving girl would do. She launches a subtle attack on Luke’s good name with the hope of getting him voted off the show. Unfortunately, Luke's an eye-for-an-eye kind of guy, and when he discovers what she's up to, it means revenge. But when their pranks go south, will they screw up any chance they have at a future together, or will they be able to forgive and forget and prove that love really does conquer all?

My Review:

This is one of those books that makes you laugh out loud, shake your head and then giggle some more... it's a fast paced story with some fun twists and turns and what I like most about it is that I can identify with the character's logic and reasoning... and enjoy the mishaps that occur because of it!  This is a book that puts romance at the forefront and doesn't muddy it with anything risque - and the story really doesn't need a 'naughty' storyline to make you want to keep reading!  If you like your romance with a side of fun and entertainment, then you will want to add The Reluctant Bachelorette to your TBR pile!
